The Ombudsperson for Gender Equality is an independent and autonomous body for combating discrimination in the field of gender equality.

Citizens can turn to the Ombudsperson if they believe that they have experienced discrimination based on gender and marital or family status, as well as sexual orientation and gender identity.

The responsibilities of the Ombudsperson for Gender Equality include receiving complaints regarding discrimination in the area od gender equality. The Ombudsperson may take steps to investigate individual complaints and with the consent of the parties involved, proceed with a mediation process with a possibility to reach an out-of-court settlement. The Ombudsperson's task is also to collect and analyze statistical data on cases of sexual discrimination. 

The Ombudsperson for Gender Equality acts in cases of infringement of the principle of gender equality, cases of discrimination against individuals or groups of individuals by public bodies, units of local or regional self-government or other bodies with public authority, by employees of these bodies or other legal or natural persons.
