The Centre for Peace Studies (CPS) is a non-governmental organization that grew out of various forms of direct peace-building in Western Slavonia.

It promotes non-violence and social change through education, research and activism within four programs: Education and empowerment for social change, Protection and promotion of the right to asylum and migration, Building an inclusive society and Affirmation of economic and social rights.

Legal aid

The CPS provides legal assistance to asylum seekers, persons under international protection, foreigners in matters related to asylum and status, and victims of racial, national and ethnic discrimination. Free legal assistance is available Mondays from 10:00 to 12:00 and Thursdays from 17:00 to 19:00 at the CPS, Selska cesta 112c.

Educational activities

Apart from organizing a host of educational activities and seminars, the CPS maintains an acclaimed annual peace studies program covering a variety of human rights topics.

Activities

  • Education of lawyers about the European Convention on Human Rights.
  • Civic and peace education.
  • Raising civic competence of students, teachers and young people, empowering citizens for activist activities.
  • Advocating excellence in educational programs, as well as democratization and inclusiveness of the education system.
  • Monitoring of and taking stances toward asylum and integration policies
  • Direct, research, legal and public advocacy work aimed at halting illegal and violent practices towards refugees and other migrants.
  • Cooperation with international, regional and domestic networks, institutions and organizations, lawyers, media and individuals in order to encourage improvement of the legislative framework and practice concerning aszlum and safe migration routes, fight against the criminalization of solidarity and inform refugees and other migrants on rights in accessing asylum and regulating their status.
  • Free legal assistance to asylum seekers, persons under international protection, foreigners in matters related to asylum status and victims of racial, national and ethnic discrimination.
  • Developing networks of activist resistance for progressive social change in the fight against racism.
  • Awareness-raising, multimedia publications and informational campaigns.
