All citizens of the Republic of Croatia can contact the Office of the Ombudsperson for Persons with Disabilities and submit a proposal for consideration of issues of importance for the protection of the rights and interests of persons with disabilities and children with developmental disabilities.

example A woman complained to the Omudsperson because of the discriminatory treatment towards her as a person with a disability, in the divorce proceedings and the decision on custody of the child. She stated that it was only because of her low vision that the Center for Social Welfare had given an opinion to the court that the child should be entrusted to the father. The Ombudsperson acted towards the Center for Social Welfare and asked for an explanation, gave instructions to the woman how to proceed and followed the court’s ruling.

The Office of the Ombudsperson for Persons with Disabilities receives individual complaints from persons with disabilities and those who work on their behalf, considers cases in which complaints are made about the violation of the rights of persons with disabilities and, in contact with the institutions responsible for resolving these issues, strives to obtain the most favorable solution.

If you contact the Ombudsperson, they will review your case. In doing so, you may be asked for additional documentation so that the Ombudsperson can get to know your case and decide what measures to take to help you.

If, after the examination procedure the Ombudsperson determines that there has been a violation of rights, the Ombudsperson will warn the violator and recommend to eliminate the irregularity or stop actions that violate your rights.
